Overview:
Thank you for making it this far and showing your interest. We are sure you, just like many others would like to see real and sustainable change in the lives of the many children from poor communities. After all we never know where the next Nelson Mandela, Mark Shuttleworth, Patrice Motsepe, Dr Nkosazana Zuma are going to come from. These children represent the future of our country, our continent as well as our economy.
Its not much of a future though if the conditions in which they are forced to learn are not conducive. Can you imagine learning on an empty stomach especially when you don't even know where your next meal is coming from, as if that's not bad enough, can you imagine having to sit under a tree or on top of a paint bucket with no desk to write on?
We are all quite aware that there are many organisations like us that are trying to make a difference, in fact one could argue that with the existence of so many organisations the difference is not really justifiable. We as The Ark Foundation aim to make a visible DIFFERENCE, no matter how big or small. We are inviting you to help us in our cause, help us make that change. There is never a contribution that is too small or large, whether its a small monetary donation, a pair of shoes, clothing voucher, food, your time, a new class, an excursion for the kids. We would appreciate any contribution.

Problem Areas:
Lack of Desks & Chairs
Pupils sitting on the floor, some on buckets and move around with chairs from class to class
Classes
Overpopulation, 55 to 80 kids in one class. Learners forced to learn under a tree.
Teachers can hardly move around in the classroom and this is a great hindrance to effect teaching.
Malnutrition
Pupils learning on an empty stomach. For some even when they get home there's still no food.
Textbooks & Stationery
Pupils forced to share stationery and textbooks. No libraries
Dilapidated Infrastructure
Run down building that pose safety risks to pupils. Present various health risks due to lack of hygiene.
Lack of ablution facilities
Low Pass Rate
Due to shortage of Maths, Science and English teachers
Also attributed to lack of educational resources like laboratory equipment, computer labs etc
Low Pupil Morale
Due to the terrible conditions that learners are forced to learn under, most of them tend to have a low morale and lack of vision in education
There is also not enough motivational guidance as most come from child headed homes, parents have no interest in child's education or parents extremely poor
School Uniforms
In 2009 there are some learners who go to school barefoot. They walk very long distances barefoot.
Lack of Career Guidance
After succesfully completing matric, pupils tend to seek employment or pursue careers that don't live up to their potential
In fact most learners don't even know the existence of some careers that they could best exploit their talents
Some pupils don't have information on Tertiary Institutions
